Gaistal

Under the eyes of Mount Hohe Munde squeezed between Teufelsgrat and mentioned beautiful mountain of Tirol, the Leutasch river and gorge runs embedded in a wonderful scenery. Alp vibes, healthy forest, some cows, and a gravel road make this a run to enjoy.
If you wanna take it gentle here you go. Outbound steady but gentle uphill with around 350m vertical over 9km. Returning downhill accordingly. You will come past Gistalalm (perfect water refill point) and Hämmermoosalm. All the time fresh water next to you to refresh in case needed. The river winds through the valley – asking for you to take a swim. You can adjust the distance easily by choosing another starting point. And if you want to take it really serious – go faster, go intervals. Or try the variant of running the entire Gaistal. All you need is a shuttle, taxi, pick-up to return to Leutasch. Great experience – great challenge.

Take care of

The cows. Every now and then cows cross the road. Watch out for young ones as moms protect their babies. Stay away from dogs when being surrounded by cows. Just let the cows go their way. Most of the time they don´t even notice and care about you. As you are running westbound for 50% of the time make sure to bring sunglasses especially when running in the afternoon as the sun will otherwise be a bit blinding.

Scenic Points

Half way to Gaistalalm the trail goes up to be around 200m higher than Leutasch river giving great views with Mount Hohe Munde in the background. This is where you take the foto of the day.

Don’t forget to let us know in the comments if you run this route! We love to hear from you!
